New Delhi [ TNN ] On a complaint filed by Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), 63 children were rescued from Old Delhi Railway Station. The first of its kind rescue operation was led by Delhi Police, Anti human trafficking unit (AHTU) and Railway police officials along with the activists of Bachpan Bachao Andolan. The complaint was made to DCP (Anti Trafficking unit and crime branch) by BBA.

During this operation, 23 traffickers were arrested. The children were in the age group 7-17 years and most of them belonged to Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh) and Motihari (Bihar). The traffickers lured the parents promising that their children would be able to send home money regularly by working at factories in Abohar, Punjab and Delhi. None of the kids attended school ever. During the initial investigation, it was found that these middle-men had supplied more kids to different factory owners in the past.

The traffickers boarded Satyagrah express at Raxaul and reached Old Delhi Railway station in 9.40 am. After receiving the tip-off about the traffickers, team members of BBA kept a close track on various stations like Sitapur, Gonda and Biswan.

8 year old Ratish (name changed) said, “I was told that lot of money would be given to me once I reach Punjab. They tried very hard to convince that a better life awaited me.

11 year old Abdul (Name changed)- “One of them told me that they are taking me to a big town and facilities available there would make me a rich and successful young boy. They never gave more information about the place or work.

13 year old Manish (Name changed)- “I was promised education in one of the madrasas in Delhi and was also assured of a job in a factory.
“This is the single largest operation to free the traffic children in transit. ”, said Mr Kailash Satyarthi, Founder of BBA. He further added, “Among those children who have been rescued from the clutches of traffickers today, the youngest one happens to be barely seven. He was being trafficked from Bihar to be sold as a tea-boy in Jind (Haryana). At a time when a former tea boy has dared his detractors by becoming the Prime Minister of India, look at the travesty that traffickers are executing such heinous crimes right under the nose of GRP in the capital of world’s largest democracy”
As per the order of Child welfare committee, Kingsway camp,Seva Kutir ,rescued children will head towards Mukti Ashram which is the transit rehabilitation centre of Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
